NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The odds of being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame are slim.  Very slim.  Cherry Bottom native Dean Dillon will beat those odds tonight when he’s inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.“It won’t be the usual ‘dress up and show up’ event like before,” Dillon told WLAF recently when it was officially announced that he was going to be inducted into the fabled hall.

The legendary song writer enters the Hall of Fame with two of his dear friends, Marty Stuart and Hank Williams, Jr.  It’s ironic that in this 60th class that Dillon goes in with Hank, Jr.  It was Williams father, Hank, Sr., that was inducted in that very first class in 1961 along with Jimmie Rodgers and songwriter/music publisher Fred Rose.

“I’ll be at home watching here in Florida (Dillon’s winter home),” Dillon said when he communicated with WLAF’s Jim Freeman on Tuesday afternoon.  “They are actually doing a 30 minute special just before the awards about the new inductees into the hall of fame.  Should be pretty interesting so tune in early,” added Dillon.  Locally, WATE-TV 6 will air the CMA Awards 2020 at 8 pm.

The news of Dillon’s upcoming induction came in to WLAF in August, and it created quite the buzz around the radio station.  Freeman was fortunate enough to visit by telephone with his childhood friend the morning the news broke.  Here’s Dillon’s story.

And about those odds.  In 60 years, only 142 men and women have been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Dillon beat those odds.  Congratulations, Dean!  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/16/2020-6AM)

  2. Gary Stewart should be inducted into the country music hall of fame; should have been years ago!

  3. Dean Dillon ranks up there with the best of the best. Don Gibson, Harlan Howard, The Hag, Don Schlitz and many more. A fitting acknowledgement to a great talent.
