LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – WLAF’s Charlie Hutson shares some history with us about the Methodist Church that once stood in the heart of La Follette.

This church (above) once sat at the corner of East Central Ave and First Street where Freeman Park is today.  “The earlier church was on Nevada Avenue.  That church burned around 1913.  In 1914, they built a new church on the corner of Central and First. Several years later, this church and the Methodist Church at Central and Indiana Avenues (where the Red Roof Market now sits) came together.  In 1965, they built the current church across from the hospital. The old church at First St. was torn down in the early 1970s,” said Hutson.  The church where the Turbo Wash – Texaco Gas Station (now Red Roof) sat was razed in the 1960s.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/03/2020-5:55AM)
