CLINTON, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell County Lady Cougars overcame an early deficit to defeat arch rival Anderson County on Friday night at Maverick Gym while the boys varsity contest went the way of Anderson. It marked the last games for Campbell until Tue., Jan 5, 2021, as all Campbell County School athletic events are on hold until then beginning Mon., Dec. 14, 2020.

Junior Cora Browning had a career scoring night with 25 topping her 21 point career night at Hardin Valley in the season opener. Browning added five rebounds, four steals and two assists in Campbell’s 60 to 52 win.

Alyssa Brown’s 12 and Bailey Gillum’s 11 marked the other Lady Cougars in double figures with nine of Gillum’s markers coming after halftime. Izzy Proffitt added six with Erica Brock tallying five as Keely Nelson had one point.

The Lady Cougars evened their mark at 2 & 2 recording their first district win to go to 1 & 0.

Anderson County claimed the boys game with an 86 to 53 win over Campbell. The Cougars, coming off their first win of the season on Thursday, were led by juniors Bryson Horton and Nate Walden with nine points each.

The rest of the Cougars box score looks like this. John John Long and Devon Jones each had eight points. Noah Burden scored six while Riley Faulkner added five followed by three points a piece from Spencer Boshears and Seth Ward. Zac Brady chipped in two.

The Cougars are 1 & 2 in all games with an 0 & 1 district mark.
