Caryville native Jamey Chadwell earns his second AFCA FBS Regional Coach of the Year award.

WACO, TX (SPECIAL TO WLAF) Coastal Carolina head football coach Jamey Chadwell was one of the 2020 Werner Ladder AFCA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Regional Coach of the Year winners, it was announced today. These winners will be honored during a virtual AFCA Convention on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021.

Chadwell, the Region 2 winner, was joined by Luke Fickell of Cincinnati (Region 1), Tom Allen of Indiana (Region 3), Doc Holliday of Marshall (Region 4), and Brent Brennan of San Jose State (Region 5).
 
The only two-time winner in this year’s class, Chadwell earned his second AFCA Regional honor by guiding the Chanticleers to an 11-0 overall mark, an 8-0 Sun Belt Conference record, and an appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game.
 
This season marked Coastal Carolina’s first-ever undefeated regular season and the first time that the Chanticleers have been ranked in either the Associated Press Top 25 Poll or the Amway Coaches Poll presented by USA Today Sports.
 
The Chanticleers have posted two wins over FBS top 25 nationally-ranked opponents this season, the first in program history, and has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the AP Top 25 Poll and No. 12 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
 
Chadwell’s first regional honor came at the FCS level in 2013 when he led Charleston Southern to a 12-3 record.
 
AFCA National Coach of the Year: The AFCA will announce the 2020 Werner Ladder AFCA FBS National Coach of the Year on Tuesday, January 12 during the virtual AFCA Convention. The Regional winners are finalists for National Coach of the Year.
 
The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association’s five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, and NAIA. The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.

  1. Congratulations, Jamey – what a great honor! This should be our next football coach at the University of Tennessee! I have a feeling we will be looking for one after this season and Jamey would be a great choice. I’m writing the University today and making the recommendation and I hope others will do the same!
