Firefighters with the Jacksboro and Caryville Fire Departments fought a house fire in frigid conditions Saturday morning.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Firefighters with the Jacksboro Fire Department and the Caryville Fire Department battled a house fire in extremely cold conditions in the early morning darkness on Saturday.

Quick action by the Jacksboro Fire Department with assistance from the Caryville Fire Department saved a home that sits just off Island Ford Road in south Jacksboro. “We were able to contain the blaze to the front porch and just inside the living room. Everyone in the home made it out safely,” said JFD Chief Jason Shetterly.

Temperatures were hovering around 10-degrees at 3:35 am when firefighters were called out. “The freezing temperatures take a toll on all your equipment. Hand tools become iced over as water almost freezes to any surface immediately making it hard for firemen to keep their footing,” said the chief. Shetterly added that the water that is leaked from filling trucks on the scene makes for road hazards. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/26/2020-7AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF JFD CHIEF JASON SHETTERLY)
