DUFF, TN (WLAF) – Joshua Baird was caught somewhere he shouldn’t have been last week. That somewhere was in a home that didn’t belong to him.

On Jan. 12, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Jordan Huskey was dispatched to a possible burglary in progress in the 4900 block of S Highway 25W, near the Stinking Creek Road turn off. The homeowner was out of town when a relative discovered the door to the home had been kicked in. She also saw an unfamiliar vehicle  parked at the residence with the back hatch open and filled with items.

Inside the home, police found Baird, who allegedly admitted to being inside the home after learning it was vacant. Baird allegedly said he broke into the residence to sleep but began stealing clothes and other items from the home. Inside Baird’s car were multiple stolen items from the home, the report said.

In addition to items stolen from the home, Huskey also located one black and chrome wheel. After further investigation, Huskey found that the LaFollette Police Department had taken a report of stolen wheels matching the same description from JR’s Tires earlier in the day. Baird allegedly told police the remaining three wheels were at a friend’s house.  The wheels were recovered and given to the LPD for its investigation.

Baird, 34, of LaFollette, was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property under $999. Baird was served with an additional warrant for theft of property under $999.99. He is due in court for the charges Jan. 21 and April 1, respectively. Baird remains in jail with no bond. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 01/19/2021-6AM)
