LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Bill Archer starred on the La Follette Owl Baseball team in the early 1960s, and to this day, he still calls Howard St. John “the best athlete to ever come out of Campbell County.”

“There just wasn’t anything he couldn’t do athletic-wise,” added Archer.

Archer shares the story of when St. John challenged Judge Billy Joe White to a round of golf. The judge said “they ain’t no way you’re gonna beat me, Howard.” Howard shot back “I’m gonna play you with a five iron.” Archer laughed saying, “Howard just wore the judge out. He tee totally wore him out with a five iron.”
