KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Cougar sophomore Devin Jones two free throws gave Campbell the cushion it needed should Halls hit a buzzer beating three. The Red Devils missed, and Jones free tosses with 6.2 seconds to go stood up in the Cougars 62 to 59 victory. Watch the game on demand HERE.

The calm left hander repeated his last second heroics of two weeks ago when he also made critical free throws in what was a 51 to 48 home win over Halls. That win triggered a three-game winning streak for Campbell. The Cougars have won four of their last six games.

Jones and Nate Walden scored a combined 25 second half points as Campbell won for the sixth time on the season. Jones finished with a game high 23 points and Walden recorded another double-double; 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Spencer Boshears totaled eight points in the win while Bryson Horton added six. John John Long, nursing four fouls much of the second half, scored four points while Noah Burden added three, and Riley Faulkner and Garrett Medley each had two points.

David Adkins and Will Lester played and did not score. Campbell was again without its senior leader, Seth Ward. Ward continues to recover from a head injury suffered a week ago in the win at Powell.

The Lady Cougars could not overcome a slow start as Halls won its second three point game over Campbell in two weeks. After a large lead, the Red Devils held on for the 50 to 47 win.

Generally when the Lady Cougars have three players reach double figures, they are victorious. Not so Tuesday night at Halls as Cora Browning totaled 16 markers with a dozen each coming from Alyssa Brown and Izzy Proffitt. Only five Lady Cougars scored as Kayleigh Jordan chalked up five, and Bailey Gillum had two. Megan Asher, Erica Brock and Keely Nelson played but failed to score.

Halls won the JV game. The final score was Halls 48 Lady Cougars 42.

Thursday’s home district games feature a rematch of Campbell and the Anderson Mavericks. The teams played on December 11 with the Lady Cougars winning and the Cougars losing. Watch the games live right here on the WLAF-Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network. Click on the WLAF-Lindsay’s Carpet & Paint Center video player.

The Lady Cougars are 5 & 9 in all contests and sport a 4 & 5 district record. The Cougars record is 6 & 7 and in the district, it is 4 & 6.

Game times for Saturday’s (01/30/2021) games at home with Powell are set. The JVs tip at noon followed by the Lady Cougars at 1:30 pm, and the Cougars play at 3 pm.
