LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – La Follette Utilities Board General Manager Kenny Baird released a statement to WLAF this afternoon addressing frequent water outages around the east La Follette construction zone.

LUB customers located in the vicinity of the TDOT road construction on Highway 63E have recently been experiencing frequent interruptions to their water service.  These interruptions have been caused by the TDOT contract crews that are relocating water and sewer lines to accommodate the widening of the highway.  These contract crews are working in very close proximity to existing LUB lines.  On several occasions, they have inadvertently damaged water lines, causing inconvenient water service interruptions for those residences and businesses located in the valley.

They are completing repairs as quickly as possible when this happens, with some repairs being completed quicker than others.

Here at LUB, we understand how frustrating this is.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by these outages.  We have been told by the TDOT contractor that all water and sewer line relocations should be completed near the end of next month.

We have had several conversations with TDOT and their contractor, and they have assured us that they will do everything in their power to try to avoid further outages, but there can be no guarantees at this point.  Thank you. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/28/2021-6AM)
