JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Budget resolutions were approved during the county’s budget and finance committee meeting held online via Zoom on Monday evening.

The first amendment was in the general purpose school fund. It regarded a one-time pay bonus for teachers and school nurses.

According to budget and finance assistant director Richard Terry, the one-time pay bonuses are “inclusive to only the teachers and the state is paying for it.”  Funding was provided by the state to recognize those specific employees.

The second budget amendment resolution was in the JROTC program which had an increase in revenue for approximately $1,700.

Also approved in the general purpose school fund was the allocation of funds due to a principal being out on leave. This resulted in an increase in principal/teacher line item to fund the balanced amendment with a net sum gain of zero. According to Terry, the principal is out on sick leave and the school system had to have a principal on location. Arrangements were made within the school system to cover the position.

Other budget amendments were in the highway public works fund. Additional funds were appropriated for extra paving costs of several projects, according to Terry. There was an increase in revenue of around $12,000, which is being appropriated for bridge construction.

The final budget resolution passed by the committee was in the general debt service fund. According to Terry, over the last several years the county has refinanced its outlaying bonds and capital outlay notes.

An increase in sales tax revenue will provide an early retirement for a capital outlay note. The County commission will officially vote on these resolutions passed by the committee at its Monday, February 15 meeting, which will be held online via Zoom at 6 p.m. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/09/2021-6AM)
