HARRIMAN, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Haley Comer and No. 25 Walters State bounced back from just their second loss of the season in a big way on Wednesday night against Roane State with an 86 to 42 win.

Comer, the former Campbell Lady Cougar, had a big night logging 36-minutes all the while scoring 13 points. She was 3 for 4 beyond the arc and shot 50% from the field. Number 32 claimed eight rebounds to go along with four assists and a steal.

Taking on the Lady Raiders for just the first time this season, the Lady Senators came out the gate firing and never looked back on their way to an 86-42 thumping.

With the win, Walters State improves to 8-2 on the year and are 7-2 in conference play.

As a team, the Lady Senators shot 49.2 % from the field. Blayre Shultz led the way for Walters State with 23 points and had four assists and five steals. Along with Shultz, Jaida Wiggins had 15 points and five rebounds while Haley Comer had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Also, for Walters State, Kiera Hill was a point away from a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds while Ryann Woodley and Vertonia Bady each had nine points.

Wanting to set the tempo early, Walters State came out ready to play in the first quarter. The Lady Senators let Roane State hang around for a bit and the Lady Raiders led 8-7 before Comer and Shultz each hit 3’s. After Wiggins and Shultz scored on layups, Walters State concluded their 10-0 run and took a 17-8 lead.

The Lady Senators finished the quarter strong and led 24-10 after a Comer layup with 30 seconds to go.

In the second, both teams struggled to score with 14 combined points. Shultz, Mitchell and Hill each scored for Walters State, and the Lady Senators led 30-18 at the break.

Wanting to come out with a more offensive approach, the Lady Senators did just that as Hill and Mitchell made layups and Shultz hit a 3-pointer. The Lady Raiders responded, but Walters State came right back, building their lead to 25 by the end of the quarter. Shultz had 11 in the quarter while Bady scored five.

The fourth quarter was much more of the same as Walters State outscored Roane State 31-12. Eight players scored for Walters State in the quarter as the Lady Senators cruised to the victory.
