Former Cougar Derek Turner and Wes Crager are hoisting a 13.20 bag placing 22nd overall in the Morristown Marine Team Trail Fishing Tournament held Saturday on Norris Lake.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Even with storms, heavy rain and hail, anglers hit Norris Lake on Saturday morning taking part in the 2021 Morristown Marine Team Trail Fishing Tournament.

Brian Stacy of Pulaski, Virgina, and Stanley Duty of Prestonburg, Kentucky, won $10,000 on the second stop of MMTT held Saturday at La Follette.

A total of 225 boats launched from Lonas Young Park at the White Bridge for the seventh year in a row in this annual tournament.  One of the region’s premier fishing tournaments featured anglers from several states.

Local angler Derick Lay claimed top Smallmouth (3.75lbs). His team partner was Bill Dunn.

Anglers weighed in and released 547 bass.  Total weight amounted to more than half a ton; 1,252 pounds.

Local team, Tony Claborn and Blake McCullah finished in fourth place. The duo took home $2,000.

The Gray Insurance Group Bonus Prize goes to the highest place finish team that has a policy with Gray Insurance Group. Local anglers Keith McDeerman/Von Dilbeck (13.15lbs.) and John Carroll/RandyHeatherly (12.82lbs.) each claimed $250.

Knoxville native Brett Rodefer claimed biggest fish weighed in Saturday at Lonas Young Park. He caught a largemouth Norris Giant (6.26lbs.). His team partner was Robert Powell.

“We always love coming to Campbell County.  The anglers are always pleased,” said a representative from Morristown Marine.  EMA Director Jay Muncy and the Lonas Young Park staff along with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the early morning launch making for one of the smoothest, hectic-free blast offs on the trail.

Total tournament payout was more than $47,000.00.
