CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – A Polaris RZR was traveling on 25W when the driver swerved to the right side of the median almost striking the guardrail prompting Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Preston Mullins to notice UTV (utility task vehicle). The RZR then turned left, running a traffic light and crossing four lanes of the road. Mullins attempted to stop the UTV at the Shell station when the vehicle proceeded to the back parking lot of the Holiday Inn before coming to a stop, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

As Mullins was getting out of his cruiser, the driver of the UTV, identified as Donald James Lewis, stepped out of the machine and started walking toward Mullins. The deputy noticed Lewis was very unsteady as he walked and was holding onto the machine for balance. When Mullins was speaking with Lewis, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. Lewis allegedly admitted to drinking while operating the RZR.

Lewis, 45, 1541 Depaul Road, Newport was charged with driving under influence (DUI) on Sat., Mar. 20. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 03/29/2021-6AM)
