CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – An expired car tag led to Patrick Lynn Chitwood’s 19th arrest on Monday afternoon. Chitwood was driving a maroon Ford Crown Victoria with an outdated registration sticker. However, upon further review by officers, the registration belonged to a 2008 Chrysler instead.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Sergeant Gary Jeffers initiated a traffic stop around 3 pm on Old Vasper Road. According to the report, Chitwood told Jeffers and Captain John Long the Ford had been recently purchased and not yet registered.

Lientenant Travis Bostic soon arrived on the scene and deployed K-9 Deputy Santo who alerted to illegal narcotics. During the search of the car, investigators located what they believed to be meth, more than 11 grams, possibly some marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke meth.

When the lieutenant ordered Chitwood to place his hands behind his back in order to be cuffed, Chitwood ran. The short-lived foot pursuit ended about a quarter of a mile away with Chitwood being placed into custody.

Chitwood, 41, is charged with violation of the registration law, felony possession of meth, driving while in possession of meth, possession of schedule VI ( marijuana), drug paraphernalia and evading arrest.

He remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this afternoon without bond. Chitwood is due in court on May 5 and again on May 11. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/13/2021-1PM)
