LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Just before midnight on Monday night, a 2005 gold Chrysler PT Cruiser was clocked on radar at 15-miles per hour over the speed limit on Loop Road. That’s according to La Follette Patrolman Jesse Ferguson’s detailed report.

Ferguson was patrolling Loop Road heading south when the PT Cruiser passed him going the other way. The officer’s radar indicated that the little truck was doing 45 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Ferguson turned around, turned on his blue lights and pulled the vehicle over in the parking lot of Ford Town Church.

The man behind the wheel was identified as 57-year old Ronnie Lawson Wayne Lawson of Poplar Lane Jacksboro. Based on the report, Lawson did not have the drivers license, proof of insurance or registration requested by Officer Ferguson. Given that, Ferguson asked Lawson why he was driving, and he reportedly said “to a friend’s house.”

Lawson was ordered out of the truck for a weapons pat down. According to the report, Lawson told the officer that he had a hypodermic syringe in his pocket, and he was then placed under arrest.

Permission was given to Ferguson to search the PT Cruiser, and he located four more hypodermic syringes; two under the drivers seat, one inside the passenger seat and one in the back seat. Also discovered were two scales, one with white residue on it, and a bottom of a Mountain Dew can. Officer Ferguson thinks the can was cut down in order to use illegal substances.

Lawson was charged with driving on a revoked license (10th offense), speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of the Tennessee financial law. He’s due in court on May 25 and remains free on bond. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/29/2021-6AM)
