LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A mom and her sons escaped with their lives this morning when their College Hill home caught fire.

Smoke from the house fire can be seen across the lake at Lonas Young Park.

Stacey Terry tells WLAF News that a little after 10am one of her boys saw fire in their garage and came running back to tell her. Terry grabbed up her four boys, her lap top (she works from home) and they loaded up in the car and called 911 as they drove up the street to neighbors.

Hank (left) and Daisy also made it safely out of the burning home and stay in the shade under the family car.

Firefighters from the La Follette Fire Department and the Campbell County Rural Fire Service responded with Campbell County EMS and EMA on the scene along with LUB.

Fire units from La Follette and Campbell County responded.

Terry said the fire spread quickly through the home, and she reacted like her late husband, Michael, had taught her. He was a longtime volunteer firefighter. Her biggest concern after reaching safety was the big half-full 500-gallon propane tank that sits behind the home. Firefighters kept the tank safe from heat and flames.

La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack listens as Stacey Terry explains how the fire unfolded.

The fire consumed more than a house. It took lots of childhood memories with it from the Lakeshore Lane home where Terry grew up. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/24/2021-11:30AM)
