JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Mayor E.L. Morton announces that the plan written between the East Tennessee Development District and his office has begun to deliver high speed internet service.  Highlands Telephone Cooperative is delivering broadband service to the first customer in Elk Valley.

“I just wanted to let you know that Highland turned up the first customer in Elk Valley yesterday (Wednesday) on the new fiber to the home network. The customer now has 250/250 Mbps service to their home,” said Mark Patterson, General Manager/CEO, Highland Telephone Coop.

Morton said there are nearly $8M in resources committed to cross the 5th district and bring service to Pioneer, Elk Valley, Newcomb, Stinking Creek, Chaska, Morley, White Oak, Wynn, Peabody and Duff over the next two to three years.  “The students in our most rural schools can now have full access to take these very high performing schools to the next level of academic achievement.  The business community has already expressed the will to rapidly expand with these services as well,” said Morton.

“Future grants can help us cross into the unserved rural areas of the other districts in the county and our plan is in place to facilitate the growth” Morton said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/28/2021-6AM)
