The 21 gun salute is traditionally a part of the Memorial Day ceremony.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Monday was a day of remembrance for those gathered at the Campbell County Courthouse for the Memorial Day Veterans’ program.  Veterans from all military service branches gathered together to remember and honor those that have gone before them.  See Charlie Hutson’s photo gallery HERE

The Campbell County Honor Guard presented the program at the courthouse veterans’ memorial. Campbell County Veteran’s Affairs Director Kevin Walden was once again the master of ceremonies for the event. Walden is retired from the United States Air Force.

Campbell County Honor Guard Chaplain JT Asbury began and closed the ceremony with prayer.

The National Anthem was performed by Carol McDonald.  A presentation of the meaning of the 13 folds of the flag was given by veterans Hugh Don Hatmaker and Ralph Smith.

Veteran Jack Reynolds (gray cap) is a fixture at the Memorial Day ceremony. His daughter Johnnie Lou Hickman (blue shirt) came with him.

The Memorial Day program also included a salute to all fallen veterans, as well as a presentation of wreaths.  

    

There was an impressive turnout to the first Memorial Day ceremony since 2019.

This year’s special guest speaker was Campbell County Mayor and Desert Storm Veteran E.L. Morton. Morton is a retired Lt. Colonel of the United States Army. He spoke of the importance of Memorial Day and it’s true meaning and of the Campbell County men and women who have served their country.
