LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Sheriff’s Det. Sgt. Joe Hopson was called to the College Hill Convenience Center about a dumpster fire. When Hopson arrived, he spoke with Josh Goins, the supervisor in charge. Goins said when one of the employees arrived at work, he found a roll off dumpster with its contents, approximately five tons of cardboard, had been burned, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

As Hopson continued to investigate, he found that two of the security cameras were missing with the wires cut or damaged. After checking with Campbell County 911 dispatch it was found that on Tue., May 25, a fire was reported at that convenience center.

When reviewing the surveillance camera footage from May 25, an image was identified by Hopson. Campbell County Jail records and Facebook were used to identify that Steven James Todd was on site minutes prior to the fire being reported.

Todd was seen on video on the property after hours and entering around a locked gate. He could be seen pulling one of the cameras down and cutting the wires, according to the report. The second camera went dark after the first was pulled down and the wires were damaged.

Todd, 33, 729 Butter and Egg Rd, Jacksboro was charged with arson, theft of property under $999.99, vandalism over $1,000 and criminal trespassing.
