THP Public Information Officer Lt. Stacey Heatherly hands out stickers at the car seat check point event held Thursday.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tennessee Highway Patrol in conjunction with East Tennessee Childrens Hospital held a car seat checkpoint event at Grace Rehab parking lot Thursday afternoon. THP representatives from Knox County and Anderson County were present for the event.

The checkpoint was for parents to stop and see if their car seats were damaged, up to date and whether or not there had been recalls. If a car seat was found to be inadequate, a car seat was provided by funding through Childrens Hospital.

A local child was measured for proper car seat safety at the car seat safety check point held by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

According to THP Public Information Officer Lieutenant Stacey Heatherly, events such as these are done monthly throughout the 11 county district served by the program. Parents can also make appointments with THP to have their car seat checked for safety at THP headquarters in Knoxville.

Thursday’s THP – Childrens Hospital event was a success.

All THP officers go through a three to four day instruction course to become certified in checking and certifying car seat safety. Follow THP on Twitter for checkpoint updates. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/11/2021-6AM)
