Central Coach Curt Jones takes a moment to visit after Wednesday’s practice at the home of the Purple Pounders.

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WLAF) – Reputations precede themselves for the football coaches at Campbell High and Chattanooga Central. Justin Price leads Campbell for the 11th season while Curt Jones is in his 8th season at the helm at Central (2001-2004 and 2018-present).

“There were more local opponents we could have played in this first game, but the dates weren’t matching up, and we also wanted to play someone new. So, I put it out there that we were looking, and Coach Price responded,” said Jones.

Jones has known of the Price brothers for years and looks forward to the match up. “I like to take one good road trip a season, and this series fits the bill. And we’ll return the favor going up there next season,” Jones explained.

The personable Jones is in his second stint at the school in the Harrison community of Chattanooga. He was there for four seasons beginning in 2001 and returned in 2018. The best season the Purple Pounders have had in recent memory was Jones 2003 squad that finished 8 & 4.

Like the Cougars, Central returns an experienced team. “We’re gonna push for a good season,” said Jones. That season for Campbell and Central begins three weeks from tomorrow night. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/29/2021-6AM)
