JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Jacksboro man indicted for second degree murder in a Dec. 4 drug related death made a brief appearance in court Monday morning.

According to a grand jury indictment, John Michael Storey, 31, was the individual responsible for distributing the drugs to the victim, William Kent Blackwell.

After his brief status hearing, Storey’s next court appearance was set to be called on Oct. 4 in criminal court.

A joint investigation by the Tenessee Bureau of Investigation, the La Follette Police Department and the 8th Judicial District Drug Task Force led to the indictment of Storey in connection to the overdose death.

On December 4, 2020, special agents with the TBI Drug Investigation Division joined investigators with the LPD and the DTF in investigating the death of 34-year- old William Kent Blackwell. He was found deceased in a La Follette restaurant from a drug overdose, with fentanyl determined as a contributing factor. The investigation revealed that John Michael Storey, 31, was the individual responsible for distributing the drugs to the victim.

Storey was indicted with one count of Second Degree Murder, one count of Sale of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and one count of Delivery of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/03/2021-6AM)
