DUFF, TN (WLAF) – On Aug. 10, Deputy Christopher West was patrolling Hwy 90 in Duff when he noticed William Curtis Padgett driving a silver Mitsubishi. The day prior West had contact with Padgett on a traffic stop, and Padgett was driving the same vehicle that belonged to Carla Douglas. Padgett was allowed the day prior to drive Douglas’ vehicle from the scene after she was arrested. However, he was instructed to drive it to a residence on Austin Lane in Newcomb. According to a report from the sheriff’s department, the man was warned by West if he was caught driving the vehicle he would be charged with joyriding.

West turned around and stopped the vehicle, spoke with the driver and placed him under arrest for joyriding. A check of Padgett’s license revealed his license was expired. He then spoke with the passenger in the car who gave a false name to West along with a driver’s license. West was able to learn the real identity of the passenger, Cassandra Rachelle Marlow.

Padgett, 35, 5191 White Oak Rd, Duff was charged with driver’s license law and other.
