JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Monday began a busy week for the Campbell County Lady Cougar soccer team as they hosted their home opener against Anderson County.  See Amber Cowell’s photo gallery of 55 snapshots HERE.

The Cougars seemed to play loose in the first half and remained scoreless as the Mavericks were able to put four on the scoreboard.  The Cougar starting goalkeeper was out with a hand injury sustained in the Powell game last week which put Faith Elkins in the goal.  Although not her primary position Elkins had some stellar saves throughout the match.

The second half started with a quick goal from Anderson County within the first five minutes.  The Cougars answered swiftly however off a corner kick by Sage Elwin to Zaylyn Ivey to put the Cougars on the board in the sixth minute.

What has proven to be a physical match-up over the years continued this season although the officials seemed to overlook blatant fouls.  One of the few fouls called against Anderson County resulted in a free kick taken by Sage Elwin which sailed into the goal.

The momentum came too late however and was short lived as the Mavericks found the goal three more times leaving the score 8-2 at the final whistle.
