DUFF, TN (WLAF) – What appeared to be a vehicle broken down in the roadway turned out to be an impaired driver.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Preston Mullins went to the Duff area on Sept. 11 to investigate the vehicle. When he arrived, he found a lifted Chevy Silverado parked in the south bound lane of Hwy 25W with high beam headlights on, blocking the lane.

The driver of the pick-up was allegedly slouched over in the driver’s seat with his arms crossed, appearing to be asleep. When the driver of the Chevy rolled the window down, Mullins could allegedly smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the truck.

The driver’s eyes were allegedly red and glossy, his cheek and nose area appeared to have redness as well, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. Mullins asked the driver if he had consumed alcoholic beverages, and he allegedly stated that he had drank nine to 10 Bud Light beers. When the driver exited the vehicle, he appeared to be unsteady and was holding onto the vehicle for support. After a series of field sobriety tests, the driver identified as Alex Wayne Ivey, was transported to the Jellico Police Department and given a breath test which resulted a .083.

Ivey, 20, 768 Davis Chapel Rd, LaFollette was charged with driving under the influence (DUI). (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/20/2021-6AM)
