JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – During the first half of Campbell’s home football game with Karns on Friday night, officers near the top of the stands responded to an apparent argument between two men.

Just below the press box two men appeared to be arguing with each other as reported by a Campbell High school official to Campbell County deputies.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Boyer found two males facing one another in the bleachers, and that he could smell what appeared to be the odor of alcohol coming from one of the men, Benjamin Davis. The other man, Jason Smith, told the deputy that he’d asked Davis to stop cursing, because his children were present, the report said.

Davis complied with deputies when he was ordered to come down from the stands to speak with them. According to Boyer’s report, he noticed that Davis was unsteady on his feet as he walked toward the stairs and had to assist him down to the bottom of the bleachers.

Boyer heard a similar story from Davis that Smith had told him. Davis allegedly told the deputy that he and Smith ended up in an argument after he was asked to stop cursing with children present. As he talked to the deputies, Boyer noticed that Davis’ speech was slurred.

Davis, 28, of Jacksboro was charged with public intoxication. He’s free on bond and is due in court in October. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/22/2021-6AM)
