TACKETT CREEK, TN (WLAF) – A van left Highway 90 on Saturday afternoon and plunged down a very steep embankment injuring its two occupants.

First Responders estimate the drop off at 200-feet. Due to the steepness, a winch was needed to lower rescuers and Stokes baskets and bring them back up. The accident happened in the bend of the road just before the Tackett Creek turn off.

La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack was nearby deer hunting when the radio call came in. He came down out of his deer stand to offer assistance to members of the White Oak Fire Department, Jellico Rescue Squad and Campbell County EMS. The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol also responded.

Units with the White Oak Fire Department (left) and the Jellico Rescue Squad were among the responding agencies.

One woman was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital while a man was transported by ground to the La Follette Medical Center. The med chopper landed in the area’s designated landing zone (L-Z) on Cara Lane (in photo below) at White Oak.
