JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Nearly three years after an accident that claimed a life, Elizabeth Pierce has pleaded guilty.

Late yesterday, in the Eighth Judicial District Criminal Court, Pierce pleaded guilty to the sole count of vehicular homicide. She had been indicted on this count along with DUI and reckless vehicular homicide in the 2018 death of Patrick Sweet of Speedwell. The DUI and reckless vehicular homicide charges were dismissed.

In Sept. 2018, Pierce’s car and Sweet’s motorcycle collided on Highway 63. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Pierce was traveling west in a 2012 Toyota SXC. Sweet was headed east on a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Pierce attempted to make a left turn onto Mercury Lane and failed to yield the right of way to Sweet, the report said.

Following her plea, Pierce, LaFollette, was sentenced to a year of split confinement and six years supervised probation. She has to report to jail within 30 days to serve the balance of her sentence, according to court records.

Along with this, Pierce is responsible for paying court costs and has lost her driver’s license for five years. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 10/05/2021- 6AM)
