JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County High School Baseball Coach Chris Mayes resigned on Wednesday. According to Mayes he is staying on as the driver’s education teacher at the high school and just stepping down as baseball coach.

Mayes started as assistant baseball coach at Campbell County in 2005 and filled that position until 2011. He left in 2011 to go to another school and came back to Campbell County as head baseball coach in the 2014/2015 school year.

“It’s been a joy to be around these young men as they change and grow as athletes. Being a part of that and a part of the community has been the best part,” Mayes said. He said he was resigning as coach because it was “time for a change.”

He said he wanted to say thanks to all the kids that played for him and thanks to all the parents as well. “I’ve enjoyed all the different groups of kids that have played for me. The students at Campbell County are truly great and I enjoyed every second of coaching them. Having relationship with the players and the community and being able to be around baseball as long as I have has been wonderful,” Mayes said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/06/2021-6AM)
