JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A wild ride on Towe String Road reached 70 miles per hour before Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies and La Follette Police Officers could arrest Robert Lee Daughtery.

On Monday evening, Oct. 4, CCSO Sergeant Joseph Weaver received a tip of a stolen gold Polaris ATV Razor that was likely to be traveling on Towe String Road. Weaver began patrolling the area, saw the ATV and attempted to stop the Polaris at the rock quarry on Towe String Road. Daugherty, allegedly driving the ATV, looked back and saw Weaver in pursuit with lights and siren activated, but he did not stop. Weaver said Daugherty was reaching speeds of 70 mph and ran vehicles out of the road.

Other deputies and officers with the La Follette Police Department were called to assist Weaver. The officers located the abandoned ATV next to Campbell County High School. Daugherty then ran across the four lane and was taken into custody.

According to the report, Daugherty, 45 of Chapman Lane, Jacksboro, told police that he saw Sergeant Weaver attempting to stop him, but he was scared, so he just kept going. Daugherty faces charges of possession of stolen property, reckless driving, felony evading arrest and driving while suspended.

Jail records indicate that Daugherty is unemployed and was arrested for the eighth time. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/18/2021-6AM)
