JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) -Other schools were interested in Campbell High Lady Cougar basketball standout Cora Browning, and she did look around, a little. However, when Milligan University Coach Kylie Greer said “I guess you’re looking at other schools,” Browning simply said, “I want to sign here.” And sign she did on Tuesday morning right in front of Coach Kylie, as she calls her.

Mom and dad were on hand. Grandparents, too. Coaches and Cora’s teammates were also there for her scholarship signing.

“I’m so excited. It’s like Christmas or a wedding,” said Jill Browning, Cora’s mom. She bragged on the staff at Milligan and how eager they were to welcome the Browning family and introduce Cora to her instructors in chemistry and biology. Becoming a physicians assistant is Cora’s career goal.

Ryan Browning, who is called dad, coach and even Ryan by Cora, could not keep from smiling all during the morning as he expressed how proud he was. “She’s worked hard, traveled a lot of miles on weekends and even missed a lot with her friends. It’s good to see her hard work get her to a launching point,” said Ryan Browning.

First year Campbell County Lady Cougar Coach Jason Kitts was not only thrilled at Cora’s signing, but he’s pumped that she has one more season wearing the orange and blue. “I’m so excited to get to coach her. You know she dropped in 26 on me when I coached at Anderson County last year. She single-handedly beat us,” said Kitts.

As fate would have it, one of Cora’s very best friends, Ashton Myers, will be her roommate at Milligan. Myers plays for Bell County (Kentucky) and will also become a Lady Buffalo. Though before the pair hits the Milligan campus, there is some unfinished business for the friends. Campbell plays the Lady Bobcats at Log Mountain in February.
