CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – After being pulled over in a traffic stop, a Dutch Valley man told a Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy he’s in trouble in another county and begged the deputy to let him go. Deputy Preston Mullins didn’t do this Clayton Perry Jones’ request.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Mullins stopped a black Ford Expedition on I-75 at Mile Marker 133 on the northbound side after he saw it cross over the right side fog line and onto the rumble strips. As the deputy followed the SUV, he noticed the driver allegedly crossed over the fog line multiple times and weave back into the lane of travel.

After Mullins stopped the Ford and spoke with Jones, he could allegedly smell an odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Jones, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. Mullins asked Jones if he had consumed any alcohol. Jones admitted he had been drinking, the report said. The deputy noticed Jones was slurring his words as he was speaking. Jones was asked to step out of the SUV, and he was hesitant to do so and began to tell Mullins that he was in trouble in Anderson County and begged Mullins to “cut him a break and let him go.”

Jones, 2266 Dutch Valley Rd, Clinton, was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under influence (DUI) and violation implied consent law. He’s due in Campbell County Court on November 9. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/29/2021-6AM)
