JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – On a rainy day on Jack Reynolds Field on the campus of Campbell High, six teams were vying for a state title.
In the 1-A championship game, Midway played Coalfield with Coalfield winning 42 – 14. The Coalfield Yellow Jackets jumped on top early, and that was it. Coalfield won the rest of the game to record yet another state title.
The game of the day was the 2-A title tilt. For the life of me and everyone else, it looked like the Oneida Indians were going to claim another state title However, Oliver Springs scored a game winning touchdown with no time left on the clock to claim the crown by a final score of 20 – 18.
In the 3-A championship game, the Jacksboro Eagles were dominant on defense and scored twice in the first quarter of play, but it was too bad they had to play three more quarters as the Bulldogs of Cherokee (Kingston) ‘went off’ to the tune of 52 – 12, and that was your final.
Jacksboro Coach Cody Parker was not happy at all with his defense as the Bulldogs had their way. Most of the damage was done on the outside on the right side of the Jacksboro defense. Where the Eagles defense was lacking, Cherokee capitalized the rest of the game.
After the game, Coach Parker told his team, made up of 6th and 7th graders “this is the standard at JMS. We expect to be in this game every year.” So Jacksboro will wait until next year to see if that team will reach the JMS standard.
I congratulate all six teams for making it to these three championship games. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/01/2021-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF DAVID GRAHAM)
