JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Second-year head football coach of the La Follette Owls Garrison Hayes brought home “Coach of the Year” honors on Championship Saturday on Reynolds Field at Campbell County High School.

“It’s a great honor, but it would not have been possible without our players and the other coaches. The school staff and community are on that list, too. Nothing is possible without all those who pitched in,” said the coach. “They all bought in, and that’s made the difference in our turn-a-round,” added Hayes.

Coach Hayes pointed out that the 17 or so eighth graders, who will be greatly missed, paved the way for future success. “They bought in and set the pace,” said Hayes.

“We had such community support. Our teachers worked the gate and concession stand, and we even had teachers in the stands at the games,” said the 23-year old head coach.

Hayes was named the East District AAA Coach of the Year. His Owls finished 6 & 2 on the field this season after a 3 & 6 mark and post season appearance in 2020.
