LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – One person was injured on Monday evening when a piece of machinery fell off a trailer causing another vehicle to run off the road according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The trooper outlines that a 2014 Peterbilt tractor trailer, driven by 29-year old Dustin Johnson of Clairfield, was heading toward La Follette on the General Carl W. Stiner Highway just after 6pm when a piece of machinery fell off the trailer, because the load was improperly secured.

Traveling in the other direction toward Speedwell was 83-year old Sallie Berry of La Follette. The debris struck Berry’s 2020 Nissan Rogue causing her to lose control of the Nissan traveling off the right side of the road near Big O’s Git-n-Go the report stated.

Based on the report, a further investigation revealed that the piece of machinery that fell onto the roadway was an extension for an asphalt paver that the Peterbilt was hauling, and that the extension was improperly secured on the paver by makeshift metal pins.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and Berry was injured according to the THP report. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/09/2021-9AM)
