LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Masonic Lodge building (above) is shown being built in 1954 on West Central Avenue.

Once completed, Lodge #623 occupied the top section. They remained there until around 2005. The lodge then moved to the former Roach Mortuary building near Tennova Medical Center.

You’ll notice next to the Masonic Lodge is the Esso (later Exxon) full service gasoline station. The Esso burned in 1968 and was rebuilt.

The lower section of the Masonic building was built to house a retail business, and Jim Roberson Furniture was the first business in the space.

In about the mid-1960s Agee & Walters Furniture & Appliance moved from downtown to this location and remained until 2008. Since then, the building has housed several businesses even a campaign headquarter. But today the building stands empty. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/18/2021-6AM)
