CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – It was an almost balmy 60 degree evening as a crowd gathered in Caryville Friday for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony held at Cove Lake State Park.

Campbell County Mayor E.L. Morton, Caryville Mayor Robert L. Stooksbury and Cove Lake State Park Ranger Casey Hatmaker all spoke briefly, welcoming the crowd and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

“It’s a blessing to be able to gather together and do this,” Morton said.

April Berry with the Chamber of Commerce co-organized the event and helped serve hot chocolate for the evening.

Several youngsters were invited from the audience to assist in the count down to the tree lighting.

“We all need a little joy right now. The county, the state and the country has had a rough year, and we’re thankful to be able to gather together here tonight for some happy time,” said Caryville Mayor Robert Stooksbury.

Santa loaned out some of his elves to serve up hot cocoa at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony held at Cove Lake State Park on Friday.

County Mayor E.L. Morton read some scripture before the tree was lit.

“It’s a blessing to be able to gather together and do this,” Morton said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/06/2021-6AM)
