LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Last night, in around five minutes, the LaFollette City Council started and ended the monthly meeting.

The council agreed to solicit bids for card reader door locks for the municipal building. If the council moves forward with installing the card reader locks, it will save the city money in the long term. When an employee leaves the city a card code would be deleted internally versus hiring a locksmith to change locks. Two board members were appointed, Councilman Bryan St. John was appointed to the LaFollette E-911 board and Councilman Wayne Kitts was appointed to the LaFollette Medical Foundation Board.

Last week the council discussed the operation of the flea market. Previously the city had appointed someone to collect the fees and bring the monies to city hall. LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust proposed at last week’s workshop that the recreation department take over the duties of collecting the funds and put the money into the recreation fund. Last night, the council approved the parks and recreation department assuming the responsibilities of the flea market. It also approved the Comcast Franchise Contract.

Ordinance 2201-01 amending the City of LaFollette Code with respect to zoning and land use control. Section 14-104 states in addition to the membership requirements as set forth in TCA 13-4-101 et seq, it shall also be a requirement for any planning member to be a resident within the corporate limits of the City of LaFollette had a first reading. Resolution 2021-25 amending the 2021-22 budget was approved.

Representatives from Postmark LaFollette attended last week’s workshop to discuss an opportunity to apply for a Rural Arts Facility Funds grant with $100,000 available in funds. To apply for the grant Postmark would need a long term lease of five years that stipulates the property must be operated as an arts facility or have ownership of the building. Last night representatives were in attendance again but received no answers. A special called meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12 at 10 am at city hall to discuss the request.
