JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – At first meeting, you’d never know that Garrett Medley is the fierce competitor he is whether it be in the classroom or on the court. Medley met one of his goals on Thursday morning when he signed scholarship papers to play tennis for LMU.

He’s not only the top tennis player for Campbell County High School, he’s one of the top students in his senior class. “He’s very humble and dedicated as well as being very academically focused,” said his beaming mother Tiffany. She also says he’s very dedicated to his friends quick to offer help and support.

Medley, or G as he’s called, did not play basketball his senior season to be able to go all tennis. He’s been a regular the past two years working out at the Cedar Bluff Racquet Club in Knoxville and will occasionally practice at the Cove Lake State Park courts.

“He’s an outstanding son, and he’s a Christian,” said a smiling Sean Medley, G’s father. He expressed his appreciation to LMU for allowing him the opportunity to carry on his tennis career and advance academically. Sean is most thankful to the school staff and athletic department at Campbell County High School for Garrett’s success. “We’re proud of his academic and athletic accomplishments,” Sean added.

LMU is adding an orthodontics program just time for Medley who plans to become an orthodontist. “Since a young age he’s had an interest in dentistry, and he’ll even be competing in the dental science category in the upcoming HOSA-Future Health Professionals state competitions at Knoxville.

Though there were other colleges considered by G, LMU was the best fit according to Tiffany Medley. Garrett becomes the 10th member of his family to attend LMU. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/14/2022-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF COACH JOSH PARKER)
