JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The first of two meetings this week with the Central Bobcats was played Tuesday evening on Brown Court, and Campbell County claimed both varsity wins. The next games are Saturday afternoon at Central with the Lady Cougars starting at 1:30pm and the Cougars tipping at 3pm. There will not be a JV game, and WLAF will have the live telecast.

The Lady Cougars scored more points in the fourth quarter last night than they did in the entire first half. It’s a good thing they did, because that was the difference in the game. Campbell trailed the Lady Bobcats at the end of each quarter except the fourth when the Lady Cougars outscored Central 17 to 10 to win the game by a final of 38-32.

Saylor Hutcheson fires a pass for the Campbell Lady Cougars.

Senior and Milligan signee Cora Browning led all scorers with 14 points posting nine in the second half while Freshman Karlie Whited added 11. Bailey Gillum and Lacey Pemberton had four points each as Saylor Hutcheson had three and Emma Brandenburg scored two points. Carley Kitts and Bella Lester played and did not score.

The Lady Cougars improve to 4 & 2 in District 3-AAAA and 13 & 5 in all games. Central drops to 7 & 14 overall with a league mark of 2 & 4.

Zac Brady dominated with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Campbell on Tuesday night.

It was double-doubles night for Cougars Zac Brady and John Long as Campbell won 79 to 63. The upfront duo combined for 35 points and 20 rebounds. Brady was top scorer on the night with 23 points while Long added a dozen; each had 10 boards. Spencer Boshears fired through 16 points, and Devin Jones hit double figures with 11. Nate Walden tallied nine points followed by six from Jack Leach and two from David Adkins. Bryson Horton and Will Lester saw action without scoring. The Cougars rang up 79 points in back-to-back nights including Monday’s 79-70 home win over Karns.

The Cougars returned to the 500-mark for the first time since the end of November at 9 & 9. Campbell now has a winning record of 4 & 3 in the district. The loss leaves Central sitting at 1 & 5 in the district and 5 & 14 in all games.

District match-ups continue Friday at Powell when Campbell plays its first away games of the new year. Powell eked out a 38-34 win at Brown Gym on Jan. 11, 38-34 in the girls game, and the Cougars gutted out a double-overtime win at 93-89. Josh Parker and company will have the live radio and TV coverage of Campbell at Powell beginning Friday at 6pm over the WLAF – Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network.

A rescheduled date was announced Sunday afternoon for the West game that was postponed on Friday, January 21. Campbell will host West on Thursday, February 3. The JV Cougars tip at 4:30pm followed by the Lady Cougars at 6 and the Cougars and West at 7:30pm.
