Tom graduated from Bluefield State College, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering Technology in December 1984, after which he worked in the coal mining industry for several years. Due to poor economic conditions and the changing face of the mining industry, Tom consulted God for guidance and found that he was urged to go to law school.  He attended Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia from 1998 to 2001.  Tom sat for the Tennessee Bar Exam at the end of summer 2001 and was notified that he had based the exam in October 2001.

Attorney Thomas J. Tabor, Jr., Esq., is making his announcement that he will be running for Criminal Court Judge for the 8th Judicial District of Tennessee.

Tom moved back to Claiborne County, Tennessee where he was offered an associate position with the late attorney Benjamin S. Pressnell in 2003.  In November 2004, he started his solo practice and opened his own office in Tazewell, Tennessee.

Tom acquired extensive trial court experience in the State trial and criminal courts of Claiborne, Campbell, Grainger, Jefferson, Hancock, Knox, Scott and Union counties as well as the State Appellate and Federal Court systems.  He was admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court in 2009.

Tom has practiced extensively as a criminal defense attorney for the past 20 years in the 8th Judicial District Criminal Court.  He feels that his extensive experience practicing before retiring Judge E. Shayne Sexton has given him invaluable experience and training to take on the position of 8th Judicial District Criminal Court Judge.

Thomas J. Tabor, Jr., Esq., will assure the constituents of the 8th Judicial District that he will follow the lead of retiring Judge Shayne Sexton in the Criminal Court for the protection of all citizens of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott, and Union counties under the laws of the State of Tennessee and of the United States of America.
