LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A couple of controversial topics are on the table for City of La Follette leaders to work through this afternoon.

At 5pm, a special called meeting at city hall will take place with the discussion of surplus property the sole item on the agenda. The city looks to talk further about what it plans to do with the old post office building it owns on South Tennessee Avenue and is currently occupied by Postmark La Follette, an arts, culture and history center. This is a related story from earlier in April.

The Red Roof Market sits on East Central Avenue at North Indiana Avenue.

A scheduled meeting of the Beer Board is to follow at 5:30pm at city hall. The Red Roof Market is facing a third violation. At the April 5 City of La Follette regular monthly meeting of the Beer Board, the Red Roof Market was represented by Attorney Steve Hurst for a third violation. Hurst requested the matter be postponed until a pending criminal case could be resolved. He reported that the issue should be resolved on April 20. The council agreed to meet on April 21 at 5:30 pm to take the issue up again. This was the third violation for the market. The violation is the result of an undercover operation where alcohol was sold to a minor without being asked for identification. Councilmember Mark Hoskins reminded the council the law states on a third violation the license to sell beer is revoked. Last year the owner of the market appeared before the board for its second violation and paid a $3,500 fine.
