JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The race for Campbell County Clerk cranked up the heat on Wednesday when, first, Todd Nance picked up a petition, and second, when Maria Partin picked up later in the day. Neither has turned their petition back in yet but have until noon today to do so in order to qualify.

Already in the race and qualified to run is two-term incumbent County Clerk Alene Baird, mother of Maria Partin, and Dewayne Wilson.

Partin has worked in the clerk’s office for more than 20 years and has filled in for Baird as clerk. Nance has run unsuccessfully in 2014 and 2018. He is the nephew of long time clerk, the late Don Nance.

This could turn very interesting especially should Nance and Partin qualify to run. So, would daughter Maria challenge her mother, Alene? Highly doubtful. Or would Baird withdraw before next Thursday’s withdrawal deadline and then retire after the election on August 4? Time will tell.

UPDATE: All four candidates have qualified for the election; Baird, Nance, Partin and Wilson. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/07/2022-6AM-UPDATED – 04/07/2022-3PM)
