CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Four ordinances had a first reading at last night’s monthly meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

It began with Ordinance 2022-01 amending the annual operating budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 followed by Ordinance 2022-02 adopting by reference state traffic offenses and rules of the road. The law was recently amended pertaining to the adoption of state laws by municipalities by reference changing the statue under which such adoption is made and by further specifying that only Class C misdemeanors may be adopted by municipalities and enforced as municipal ordinance violations. This changes which court the citation may be heard in as well, changing from general sessions court to municipal court. Ordinance 2022-03 amending Title 3, Chapter 2, Section 3-202 establishing reasonable court costs will change court costs. The cost is currently $55, making The Town of Caryville the second lowest court cost in the state. The new fee will be $110 from Ordinance 2022-11 amending Title 3, Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code to adopt electronic citation regulations and fees. This will allow the town to collect $5 per citation that results in a conviction.

Mayor Bobby Stooksbury updated the board about progress on the interstate between Exits 134 and 141. He reported that the completion date has been pushed back to Summer 2022. The work to add an additional lane to a 4.6 mile stretch of I-75 on Caryville Mountain in Campbell County began in the spring of 2016. It was supposed to take two years to complete.

Alderman Patrick Pebley reported that the fundraiser dinner held last month for the Caryville Cares Playground yielded around $55,000. On Saturday night Manahouse Murder, another fundraiser, will be held at 7 pm at Manahouse Coffee, tickets are still available for $25.
