LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Thursday afternoon in a special called City of LaFollette Council meeting the topic of surplus property was the lone item on the agenda. The surplus property was the old LaFollette Post Office where Postmark LaFollette is currently housed. UPDATE related story.

City Attorney Reid Troutman told the council an offer had been made by the LaFollette Housing Authority to purchase the old post office for $200,000. The council unanimously voted to accept the offer.

Postmark LaFollette had previously appeared before council with a proposal to lease the building. At last month’s meeting, the council agreed to surplus the property but failed to inform Postmark it had declined its lease offer. Postmark representative Karen Cumorich asked Mayor Phillip Farmer, as the meeting drew to a close, what the council had decided on the lease offer? He said they decided to not accept the offer.
