LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On this Throwback Thursday, we take a look back to 1975 when La Follette’s original Sonic Drive-In opened.

That first Sonic was on Hwy 25W between Gamble Motors and Tran South Finance (now the Campbell County 911 office). Fire destroyed this location on May 7, 2003. That’s when the current Sonic was built further up the street where West Central Avenue splits from Highway 25W.

The new drive-in was only closed for about two months while the current Sonic was being built. The original Sonic Drive-In location is now part of Gamble Motors. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/21/2022-6AM)

    1. Thank you for your response, Rita.

A drive-in called Chubby’s was the original tenant in the building you’re referencing. It opened in circa 1994.

  1. It was originally called the Tennessee Drive In.

Big hang out spot in the 50s and 60s. Remember it well.
