DUFF, TN (WLAF) – Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher, counselor or principal who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that educator who has inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard working educators with a weekly feature. This week’s featured educator is Savanna Kidwell. She teaches second grade at Wynn Elementary.

Kidwell is a lifelong Campbell County resident raised in the Stinking Creek and Wynn community. She is married to Albert Kidwell and they have two “energetic boys, Nathan 8 and Nolan, who is 5.”

According to Kidwell, she always wanted to be a teacher.

Wynn Elementary School’s Savanna Kidwell is Eagle Tire Pros and WLAF’s teacher of the week.

“I knew from my first day of kindergarten that I was going into education. My lifelong best friend and I both made a pact then to be teachers, and we both achieved that goal,” Kidwell said.

She began her career at Jellico Elementary, where she taught for two years before moving to her home school at Wynn. She has been an educator for 10 years total.

Kidwell said she was inspired along the way by many wonderful educators including her kindergarten and first grade teacher Karen Holder and her middle school teacher Mrs. Glenda Ayers, who both had an impact on her.

“However, I would say that ultimately,  I followed in my mother’s footsteps,” Kidwell said.

To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.

Her favorite part about teaching is “seeing a child who struggles with self-doubt grow and realize that they are capable, and that effort brings reward.”

Something positive that keeps Kidwell going on the hard days is her “school family” and watching her colleagues “go above and beyond to ensure that each child is successful.”

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros.
