CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – It was daybreak on Sunday, May 1, when Campbell County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tim Powers was on routine patrol along Highway 116 south near the Campbell-Anderson County line.

At 6:40am, the sergeant was radioed by officials in Anderson County that they had lost contact with a suspect driving a white 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee that could be driving in his direction. “I was looking right at the interstate when I received the call and headed north on I-75,” said Powers.

Anderson County authorities believed the driver, 23-year old Jason Tyler Duncan of Rocky Top, was driving without a valid license. Sergeant Powers also learned that Kimberly Snow, 32, Rocky Top was likely with Duncan. Snow was wanted on outstanding warrants in Anderson County.

Powers caught sight of the white Jeep at mile marker 133 northbound on I-75 and could see that there were four people in the vehicle. The sergeant followed the Jeep to the 140 mile marker where he attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Duncan accelerated once lights and sirens were activated.

In the report from the sheriff’s office, it details that speeds reached 108 miles per hour through a construction zone where the speed limit is 60 MPH. Powers noted that Duncan allegedly drove recklessly by passing vehicles on the shoulder and running several vehicles off the road.

At mile marker 154, six miles south of Jellico, Duncan attempted to make a left hand turn at an emergency personnel only crossover. That’s when the Jeep began spinning uncontrollably nearly striking Powers cruiser and another patrol unit. Duncan regained control and headed south on I-75 in a reckless manner based on the report.

The white Jeep took the Caryville Exit, 134, ran the stop sign, headed up Main Street and onto Mountain Road. Less than a half-mile from the interstate, Duncan jumped out of the Jeep while it was still in motion and then ran behind Central Baptist Church. Powers and other deputies lost sight of Duncan while the three occupants in the Jeep did not get out of the vehicle.

Anderson County Deputy Adam Warren and his K-9, Axle, were near the scene and were radioed for assistance. Deputies followed the K-9 to a house, near the church, that had two open crawl spaces. Axle, the K-9, successfully located Duncan who was taken into custody at 7:38am, nearly an hour after Powers received the call.

Duncan was charged with evading arrest, speeding, driving while suspended, revoked or canceled drivers license, reckless driving and drivers to exercise due care. Duncan remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning on an $80,000 secure bond and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court today at 9am.

Snow was taken into custody and transported to the Campbell County Jail. Anderson County authorities later picked her up and took her to the Anderson County Jail. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/10/2022-6AM)
