LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tuesday afternoon at the monthly meeting of the LaFollette City Council a new full time employee was hired in the finance department. Blake Arnold was hired to fill the position vacated by retiring Director of Finance Terry Sweat. Arnold will begin his new position on Monday, May 16 at a salary of $50,000.

Three ordinances had a final reading. They are Ordinance 2022-06 abandoning a portion of an unopened street located within South Ninth Street in the City of LaFollette; Ordinance 2022-07 and Ordinance 2022-08 amending the personnel policy on recommendations from comptroller’s office has a first reading, the ordinances are in response to recommendations made in last year’s comptrollers report. In the ordinance it defines use of municipal time, facilities, etc. The ordinance also includes a number and online contact to report suspected violations of the ordinance. The council suspended the rules and added Resolution 2022-15 to the agenda. The resolution pertains to the essential employee premium pay from the ARP funds (American Rescue Plan). The city received an allocation of $232,500. Each employee who meets the requirements will receive $2,500 each.

The council accepted a bid of $14,827 for a combi tool for the fire department from Safe Industries. Cheyenne White was promoted to full time patrol officer with the police department at a salary of $30,430.40 effective May 21.

Two bids were submitted for a 60 x 10 metal building for the recreation department. Recreation Director Johnny Byrge requested council accept the low bid from locally owned and operated JCR Construction. The bid was for $85,500. The company did state they would need half down up front to lock-in the price. The council was in agreement to lock-in the price.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/11/2022-6AM)
