LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher, counselor or principal who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that educator who has inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard working educators with a weekly feature. This week’s featured educator is Lisa Long. She is from LaFollette and teaches at LaFollette Elementary School. Long currently teaches second grade, but will change to teach third grade next year.
She is in her 12th year as an educator and credits many of her own teachers with inspiring her to teach, though the ultimate inspiration came from God.
“When I was in school, I had some of the most amazing teachers. Teachers like Nancy Leach, Ernest Jones, Jane Ann McFarland, Diana Thomason, Joy Davis and Carolyn Cox to name a few. I like to think they inspired me but, I believe it is what God led me to do most importantly, ” Long said.
Her favorite part about teaching is the “Ah-ha moments.”
“I love it when I’m teaching children and they have that Ah-ha moment, and they get it! You can see it on their faces, in their eyes, and in the big smile they get. I really love that,” Long said.
She said it’s always her family that gets her through any hard days, especially her grandson.
“I have the sweetest little grandson who just turned one and he means the world to me. His sweet smile makes everything better for me. My daughter, my son-in-law, my grandson and my family mean the world to me! God has blessed me with a great family.”
